Trenching and Shoring Training Overview
Trenching and excavation work present significant hazards in construction and industrial environments. F.A.S.T. Rescue’s Trenching and Shoring Training equips workers with the essential knowledge and skills needed to work safely in trenching and excavation operations.
This training meets the latest safety regulations in Ontario and focuses on preventing cave-ins, managing risks, and ensuring safe work procedures are followed.
Participants will learn about the different types of protective systems, such as shoring, shielding, and sloping, and how to properly inspect trenching equipment. This training is crucial for workers in industries where trenching and excavation are routine, ensuring compliance with Ontario’s health and safety standards.
Course Content
Our Trenching and Shoring Training covers the following key areas:
- Legislation and Regulations: A thorough review of Ontario’s safety regulations regarding trenching and excavation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and relevant sections of the Construction Projects Regulation.
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment: Learn to identify potential hazards associated with trenching and excavation work, such as cave-ins, hazardous atmospheres, and nearby utilities.
- Protective Systems: Understand the different methods of protecting workers in trenches, including shoring, shielding, and sloping. Learn when and how to apply each method to different trenching situations.
- Soil Types and Conditions: Gain knowledge about different soil classifications and how soil conditions affect trench stability and the protective systems used.
- Emergency Response and Procedures: Learn how to respond in case of trench collapse or other emergencies, including rescue techniques and first response procedures.
Certification and Requirements
- Duration: Typically 4-6 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on training.
- Completion Requirements: Full attendance and successful completion of written and practical assessments.
- Certification: Participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion, valid for three years.
