F.A.S.T. Rescue is a Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) approved training provider delivering the approved Working at Heights program in Mississauga.

  • CPO-approved program: Our Working at Heights program is approved by the Chief Prevention Officer of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and meets Ontario’s current training standards.
  • Complete learning: The two-module program covers fall hazard recognition, selection and inspection of personal fall arrest equipment, and your duties when working at heights.
  • Hands-on learning: Classroom theory plus a practical skills assessment. The practical portion must be completed in person — it cannot be done online.

Course Details

  • Who Can Join: No previous training is required. Working at Heights training is mandatory for workers on construction projects in Ontario who use any of the following methods of fall prevention or protection: travel restraint systems, fall restricting systems, fall arrest systems, safety nets, or work and safety belts. Workers in other sectors take the course where their employer requires it.
  • Certification: The course runs 8 hours. Certification requires 100% attendance, a successful practical skills demonstration, and a passing written exam. Your certificate is valid for three years from the date of successful completion. Before it expires, a refresher re-validates your training for another three years.

What You’ll Learn

  • Using safety equipment: Proper inspection, donning and size adjustment of a harness and lanyard, and the use of personal protective equipment including fall arrest systems.
  • Understanding your responsibilities: Your rights and responsibilities as a worker when working at heights.
  • Practical skills: Precautions for lifting, lowering and moving; area hazard assessment; control of the platform; and working on elevations.

Training Materials and Exams

  • Materials provided: All course materials and workbooks are included.
  • Exams: A written exam and a practical skills assessment. The pass mark is at least 75%.

Why This Training Is Important

Working at heights carries real risk, and proper training is a requirement, not an option:

  • Prevent injuries: Recognising fall hazards and correctly inspecting and using your equipment is what stops a fall from becoming a fatality.
  • Stay compliant: Training keeps your crew eligible for the sites and contracts that require it.
  • Work better: Trained crews work more confidently, pass inspections, and keep projects on schedule.
