Basic Life Support (BLS) Course
The Basic Life Support course is a half-day training that provides participants with the critical skills and knowledge to respond effectively in life-threatening emergencies. Learning Objectives
- Basic Life Support Fundamentals: Understand the basics of BLS, including personal safety, scene management, and legal considerations.
- Emergency Response Techniques: Learn to manage emergency scenes, conduct primary and secondary assessments, and coordinate effectively with EMS.
- Life-Saving Skills: Develop skills to address breathing and circulation emergencies, including CPR and AED use.
- Specialized Interventions: Gain knowledge on administering naloxone for opioid overdoses and supporting individuals in mental health emergencies.

- Certified F.A.S.T. Rescue First Aid Instructor or Instructor Trainer.
Completion Requirements
- 100% attendance.
- Skills demonstration.
- Minimum 75% passing grade on a written exam.
Course Content
- Basic Life Support Principles: Introduction to BLS, covering resuscitation approaches, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the Chain of Survival.
- Emergency Scene Management: Techniques for safely managing emergency scenes, assessing hazards, and conducting primary and secondary surveys.
- Management of Breathing Emergencies: Skills for recognizing respiratory distress, performing rescue breathing, and managing airway obstructions.
- Automated External Defibrillation (AED): Instruction on AED use, including special considerations for different situations.
- Naloxone Administration: Recognize opioid overdoses and administer naloxone, a critical intervention for opioid-related emergencies.
- Mental Health Emergencies: Approaches to managing mental health crises, understanding stressors, and providing compassionate support until professional help is available.
COURSE DURATION
- In-Class Training: 4 to 5 hours with flexible scheduling options.
- Blended Training: 3 hours of online theory followed by 2 hours of in-class practical training.
