Return to Work for Workers Online Training Course

A successful return-to-work program benefits both workers and employers by supporting recovery, reducing lost time, and helping employees safely resume productive work activities. This online Return to Work – Workers course provides employees with a clear understanding of their role in the Early and Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) process and the importance of communication, cooperation, and workplace accommodation following an injury or illness.

Designed for workers at all levels, this course explains the key steps involved when a workplace injury occurs, from injury reporting and seeking appropriate treatment to participating in return-to-work planning and modified work programs. Participants will learn how recovery begins immediately after an injury, why early communication is essential, and how suitable work can support both healing and a successful return to regular duties.

The course also introduces important return-to-work tools and processes, including Functional Abilities Forms (FAFs), modified duties, accommodation requirements, WSIB reporting requirements, and the responsibilities of workers, employers, health care providers, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Learners will gain a practical understanding of how return-to-work plans are developed and how cooperation between all parties contributes to positive outcomes.

Throughout the training, participants will discover their legal obligations under Ontario legislation, learn how to effectively communicate during recovery, and understand the consequences of failing to cooperate in the return-to-work process.
