Early Safe Return to Work – Managing for Success
A successful Early and Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) program is critical to supporting injured employees, reducing lost-time incidents, and ensuring compliance with workplace legislation. This comprehensive course equips managers, supervisors, and return-to-work coordinators with the knowledge and practical tools needed to confidently manage workplace injuries and facilitate successful return-to-work outcomes.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the legislative requirements and shared responsibilities of employers, workers, health care providers, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). The course explores the importance of communication, cooperation, documentation, and due diligence throughout every stage of the return-to-work process. Learners will become familiar with key WSIB forms, including Forms 6, 7, and 8, the Functional Abilities Form (FAF), and the Physical Demands Analysis (PDA), and how these documents support effective case management and modified work planning.
The training follows the complete return-to-work journey, from pre-injury preparation and injury reporting to recovery management and program evaluation. Participants will learn how to identify suitable modified duties, coordinate communication among all stakeholders, monitor recovery progress, document interactions effectively, and address potential red flags before they become barriers to recovery. The course also highlights practical strategies for supporting workers, maintaining compliance, and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
By the end of the program, learners will have the confidence to manage return-to-work situations proactively, support employees through recovery, and contribute to safer, healthier, and more productive workplaces.
