Red Cross First Responder Program

Prerequisites: No prior courses or pre-work is required to attend the First Responder Program.

Course content includes:

• The Emergency Scene
• Body Systems
• Preventing Disease Transmission
• Primary Survey
• Secondary Survey
• Measuring Blood Pressure
• Respiratory Emergencies
• Cardiac Emergencies (CPR-HCP)
• AED
• Breathing Devices
• Bleeding and Shock
• Soft Tissue Injuries
• Musculoskeletal injuries
• Injuries to the Head and Spine
• Injuries to the Chest, Abdomen and Pelvis
• Injuries to the Extremities
• Sudden Illness
• Poisoning
• Heat and Cold Emergencies
• Special Populations/Crisis Intervention
• Childbirth
• Reaching and Moving Casualties
• Multiple Casualty Incident
• Written exam (min. passing grade 75%)

Take-home materials include:

• The Canadian Red Cross First Responder Manual, 2nd Edition
• The Canadian Red Cross CPR/AED Manual
• Certification Card (valid for 3 years)

Please note:

• Annual CPR recertification is recommended by the Canadian Red Cross and the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
• While your certification with F.A.S.T. Rescue Inc. is for 3 years, your discipline may require re-training on a more frequent basis.
• Recertifications may only be taken if the full course was successfully completed within the past 3 years.
